Shorts - Liu Xiaobo : Critic or More?

China's Noble peace laureate Liu Xiaobo, one of the architect of 'charter 08' which demanded rule of law, freedom of expression and democracy and formed the basis of Tiananmen Square protests in 1989 is no more now as he died out of multiple organ failure owing to cancer in prison. China may have been rising economic giant rivaling United States and others, but its record on the front of human rights stands abysmally low with its state authorities always walking the extra mile to crush dissent through brutual force. By incarcerating Liu Xiaobo for his persistent voice demanding democracy and denying treatment in abroad for cancer, Chinese rulers have only demonstrated their inhumane face and their utter discontempt for respecting human rights of their citizens. Without democracy and rule of law, China could hardly sustain its economic prosperity.
